Emma took the top honor after her powerful rendition of the Aretha Franklin song “Dr. Feelgood.”. “I’m so shocked and amazed that I won,” she said. “It is just such a humbling experience to be here.”. Emma, who was a part of the competition last year as well, says she loves soul music, which is why she chose a song by Aretha Franklin. “The first year I competed, I did a soul song,” she said. “I really love Aretha, and I knew I wanted to go back to my roots with soul. I just love that type of music, and I think it works with my voice.”.

Taking second place in the competition was Los Gatos High School freshman Devon Schreiner, who sang the Jessie J song “Momma Knows Best.”, “I can’t even describe it, I was speechless when they called my name,” Devon said, “I came into this being happy for everyone and just wanting to do my best, I was not expecting to win second place.”, Devon, who is participating in Idol for her second time, said the competition has really helped her grow, “I’m a shy person, but I was way shy when I competed last year in the eighth grade,” she said, “But being pink flats - glitter shoes - magenta ballet flats - sparkly wedding shoes - prom shoes - glitzy flats - royal purple slip ons on stage is an indescribable feeling, and it has made me come out of my shell and just be myself.”..

The 14-year-old Los Gatos resident impressed the judges with the song “They Just Keep Moving the Line” by Megan Hilty. “I was kind of struggling trying to find a song about a person,” she said. “‘They Just Keep Moving the Line’ is from a show based on Marilyn Monroe and it has just always connected with me, so that’s what I decided to go with.”.

The top three winners all received cash prizes ranging from $2,500 to $500; Emma was awarded an additional $500 for her high school’s music program, “This year’s show and the talent of the performers were just fabulous,” said Millie Sprintz, chair of the competition, Through five years of the Teen Idol event, Sprintz said this year’s finalists were the youngest group they have ever had competing, “The three winners are all freshman, and then pink flats - glitter shoes - magenta ballet flats - sparkly wedding shoes - prom shoes - glitzy flats - royal purple slip ons there were three others in the top 10 that are eighth-graders,” she said, “They are all so talented, I came to all the rehearsals, and it was so amazing to watch them grow and watch them bond with each other.”..
