Listen to: “Garden,” “Chili Town”. The skinny: Hinds was widely tagged as one of this year’s “must-see” acts. Fortunately, the Spanish buzz band — featuring vocalist-guitarists Ana Garcia Perrote and Carlotta Cosials, bassist Ade Martin and drummer Amber Grimbergen — lived up to the hype in Austin. The group, which started out as a duo in 2011, impressed with its sunshine-soaked set of raw garage-rock and tuneful indie pop, making it easy to understand why Hinds has already become something of a critics’ darling. Plus, the band can also work its magic in the studio — as its 2016 debut, “Leave Me Alone,” attests. Hinds could be huge by year’s end, so don’t wait to climb aboard the bandwagon.

The skinny: All Dogs comes from the same burgeoning Columbus scene that produced another breakout star, Lydia Loveless, a few years ago. All Dogs leader and songwriter Maryn Jones shares an honesty, no matter how brutal, with Loveless. Hidden under a reverby sheen of summery girl-band rock tunes are some pretty bleak sentiments. “I am a black hole, everything I touch slowly turns to dust. And you are pure,” she sings in a reflection of self-doubt and inadequacy. But she exudes strength and resiliency as well, so the music never sinks into depression. Jones is also a member of another Columbus band that’s had success recently, the alt-folk outfit Saintseneca, which turned some heads at SXSW last year. All Dogs gives Jones a whole different way to express herself, and she makes the most of it.
