THE OTHER ‘BOHEME’: Ask people to name their favorite opera, and a high percentage of the answers will always come back the same: “La Bohème.” They mean Puccini’s masterpiece, of course. But there’s another “La Bohème” — the one composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo, best known for “Pagliacci.” Both “Bohèmes” are drawn from the same source, Henri Murger’s novel “Scenes de la vie de bohème,” but Leoncavallo’s version is seldom performed today — which makes it kind of intriguing to see it on West Edge Opera’s 2016 Opera Medium Rare series. Designed to give audiences the opportunity to hear neglected works, the series presents rarely performed operas in concert, with English supertitles. Last month, it was Giovanni Paisiello’s “The Barber of Seville” — written before Rossini’s “Barber” — and this month, Leoncavallo’s “Bohème” receives two performances. The cast includes Carrie Hennessey, Buffy Baggott, Anders Froehlich, Alex Boyer and Ryan Bradford. Jonathan Khuner conducts from the piano. Performances are 3 p.m. March 20 at the Lisser Hall at Mills College in Oakland; $22-$44; 510-841-1903; and 8 p.m. March 22 at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley; $13-$44; 510-644-2020 ext. 120; www.westedgeopera.org.

Right before I got married, my fiance surprised me with two tiny orphaned kittens he found under a Dumpster. They were so small they used a pie pan for a litter box. When my husband carried me over the threshold, I carried Sneakers and Puka. People started bringing me white kittens in need of homes: Pinky, Vessla and finally Caesar and Lexie. I had two little kids by then, and to identify the kittens at a glance, we put food coloring on their tails, pink and blue. A tradition was born, and we started food-coloring white cats for special occasions. The summer Pinky was dyed pink, I think our mailman stopped drinking.

Caesar and Lexie lived to be 16 years old and passed away a month apart after enjoying a life of perfect health and happiness, All my white cats were sweet and personable, I love all cats, but I confined myself to only custom jet black swarovski crystal rhinestone ballet flats shoes - wedding flat shoes - swarovski crystal rhinestone shoes white ones so I wouldn’t be the crazy lady with 40 cats, He loved turkey and would stand on his hind legs and dance when I held the up a piece, Like all the Manx cats I’ve had, he came when he was called, Last year I rescued a gray Manx tiger from the Martinez shelter, Allison has been a great addition to our pet household, She gets along with the other cat, a huge black male, and with our two Chihuahua mixes..
