The play follows the blunders of Truffaldino, a mischievous servant who only seeks food but somehow becomes the servant of two masters. He is soon deeply entangled in various love triangles, cross-dressing, confusion and hilarity. Originally written in 1746 by Carlo Goldoni, the play was recently adapted by Oded Gross and Tracy Young for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where it was a huge hit. Infused with musical elements and over-the-top hysterics, “Servant of Two Masters” is fun for all 7 and older.

Director Kimberly Taylor chose “Servant” because it is a new style to PHS, stating that “the original production is in the commedia dell’arte style, a comedic form filled with fun and improvisation.”, Taylor was excited about incorporating improv into a show and decided on this particular adaptation of “Servant” because “it’s more modern and applicable baby ruffle ballet booties to a broader audience.”, Cast member Stuart Ashford finds the “cultural references” in the show hilarious and is “especially excited for the dance numbers.”..

Josef Crombie-Presberg, an amateur juggler, looks forward to bringing his expertise to the show. Combining multiple forms of theater, including circus, song, dance and improvisation, “Servant” will be a unique addition to the Alan Harvey Theater stage. “Servant of Two Masters” stars seniors Stuart Ashford, Landon Campbell, Elie Docter, Tyler Ellis and Yuval Wolf, and juniors Nina Adarkar, Cade Becker, Addie Christensen, Crombie-Presberg, Char Nakashima-Conway, Addie Perkins and Akshai Wadhwani.

Goldoni originally wrote “Servant of Two Masters” with extensive improvisational breaks, leaving the show up to the interpretation of the director, This freedom for creativity has inspired numerous adaptations, including the smash hit “One Man, Two Guvnors,” set in 1960s Britain, as well as various other foreign interpretations, “Servant” is rarely tackled at the high school level, but Taylor “believes that the cast is up to the challenge” and is excited to create a baby ruffle ballet booties unique, modern rendition of the original Renaissance-era play..
